From Midday Report, 12:46 pm on 19 May 2020

New statistics show that one in three Māori and Pasifika live in a damp or mouldy home.

The results are from the 2018 census and is the first time the census has collected nationwide data on household damp and mould.

Māori and Pacific people were more likely than other ethnic groups to have damp homes, with more than 35 percent of Māori and 37 percent of Pasifika living in damp houses at the time of the 2018 Census.

That is compared with just 22.3 percent for New Zealand overall.

Māni Dunlop speaks with senior manager census data delivery, Susan Hollows, about the research.
