Mr Biden said he believed he will be named the winner once all votes are counted.

Mr Trump's campaign team announced they have taken legal action to stop the counting of votes in Michigan, a state which has been called for Joe Biden within the past few hours.

In the state's capital, Detroit, protesters have clashed with police and election officials.
