Ngāpuhi leader and kaumātua to the Labour Party, Rudolph Taylor, has died, aged 66.

Rudy, as he was more commonly known, is being described as a big man with a big heart.

He became the senior Māori Vice President of the party in 2013, and was also Labour's Māori Council Chair.

For years he was at the forefront of trying to get a settlement across the line for the far North iwi Ngāpuhi, helping to form the hapÅ« alliance group Te Kotahitanga o Nga Hapū Ngāpuhi.

Māni Dunlop spoke to Te Tai Tokerau MP and Labour Deputy Leader, Kelvin Davis, about the man who he credits for his political success.
