A group of indigenous New Zealanders are fighting to get an official language week for Moriori.
The Hokotehi Moriori Trust have launched a petition and written to the government asking for official recognition.
Trustee Chas Taurima told Charlotte Cook the language is struggling to stay afloat and has little focus, which can partly be attributed to the long standing myths and stigma about Moriori.
