England, Australia, India cricket rocked by match-fixing claims

The International Cricket Council is investigating claims England, Australia and India engaged in match fixing during tests over the past two years. An Al Jazeera documentary suggests a small number of players were involved in fixes during tests at Chennai in 2016 and Ranchi in 2017. Al Jazeera made contact with a member of India's mafia - the D-Company - which controls most of the country's illegal betting market said to be worth $60 billion per year. England test captain Joe Root said the claims were "outrageous". The ICC said in a statement a few hours ago that "a full investigation led by the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit, working with full cooperation from all Member countries identified in the programme, is now underway to examine each claim made." They went on to say Al Jazeera had refused requests to cooperate and share information which had "hampered the investigation". The ICC requested all un-edited and unseen evidence the company are in possession of. A spokesperson for the ICC said because their investigation will likely be subject to a legal process, they could not provide any additional comment or put anyone forward for an interview with RNZ.
