Fiji opposition leader charged by anti-corruption officials

From Morning Report, 8:38 am on 29 May 2018

The leader of Fiji's main opposition Sodelpa party has been charged by anti-corruption officials. Sitiveni Rabuka led two coups in 1987 and was later elected prime minister, much like his opponent- current prime minister Frank Bainimarama. Mr Rabuka appeared in court on Friday, where he was bailed until his next appearance on June 6. The charges relate to an alleged anomaly in his financial declarations for 2016 and 2017. If he's found guilty he may be ineligble to run against Mr Bainimarama in the general election later this year. Mr Rabuka told RNZ Pacific's Jamie Tahana he feels his high profile is making him a target.
