Weather: Heavy rain, strong winds lash East Coast

The Waipaoa River in Gisborne and The Hikuwai River in Tolaga Bay have reached alert levels after a night of heavy rain on the East Coast. Tairawhiti Civil Defence Emergency Management and the Gisborne District Council's flood warning team have been monitoring rivers and rainfall through the night.
