Government considering stricter sanctions on Russia

From Morning Report, 7:10 am on 3 October 2022

The Prime Minister is waiting on advice from officials about whether restrictions on imports and exports to Russia could be further tightened.

The Government has condemned Russia's self-proclaimed annexation of four regions of Ukraine and plans to impose more sanctions as a consequence.

Jacinda Ardern told Morning Report there are already sanctions on Russian individuals and trade.

However there are some exemptions, including on exports of New Zealand food products into Russia.

Ardern says officials are working to establish whether the sanctions are as comprehensive as possible.
