Prime Minister on government u-turn on three waters entrenchment

From Morning Report, 7:09 am on 5 December 2022

The government is making a U-turn on its decision to entrench part of the three waters legislation regarding the privatisation of water assets.

The rule would have required 60 percent of votes in the house to overturn the legislation. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has described the amendment to the bill as "quirky".

On Sunday, leader of the house Chris Hipkins said it was "not typical", and wasn't something the government was comfortable with doing.

Ardern spoke to Corin Dann.
