A man has been arrested and charged with arson in relation to the fatal Loafers Lodge fire in Wellington on Monday night.
He is scheduled to appear in the Wellington District Court this morning, and police aren't ruling out further, more serious charges.
Another man who is a convicted arsonist and lived in Loafers Lodge says he discovered the fire in two different rooms and ran to alert residents and get clear of the building.
Raymond Lauder says a suspicious couch fire just hours before the fatal blaze had him worried about what might happen next.
