Police are using powerful new AI to help them assess the risk posed by offenders when officers are called out to emergencies.
RNZ can reveal the new intelligence tool SearchX can instantly display 15 times more connections between people, such as with guns and associates, than the old system.
It is at the heart of a $200 million frontline safety programme being rolled out in response to the shooting murder of unarmed constable Matthew Hunt in West Auckland in 2020.
