From Morning Report, 6:49 am on 17 November 2023

About 40 people - many with dogs - have protested outside the Far North District Council headquarters in Kaikohe, denouncing the region's dog control system which they say is dangerous and long in need of an overhaul.

The region's Mayor Moko Tepania emerged to listen to protestors, who say the growing number of dog attacks in the region and a proliferation of dogs roaming the streets are cause for major concern.

An elderly woman was killed and her two daughters left injured in a dog attack in Moerewa last month.
