There are early signs extra security staff at hospital emergency departments this holiday period is helping stamp out abuse and violence - and those on the frontline are feeling safer at work.
The Government provided funding for EDs across the motu for extra security guards from mid-December, to increase patient and staff safety over the busy summer period.
However, some warn it's only treating the symptom, not the cause of the problem.
