New research suggesting the planet has already exceeded 1.5 degrees of warming has come under fire from scientists around the world.
Morning Report spoke to a scientist involved in the study on Wednesday, which examined centuries-old sea sponges and found growth records that document changes in water temperatures dating back 300 years.
But critics say the study, which centred on a single species from one part of the Caribbean Sea was too narrow and made misleading claims regarding the Paris Agreement.
