Richard Nunns and the late Hirini Melbourne are significant figures in the revival of te reo (the Maori language) and taonga pouro (the instruments) respectively. Their 1993 album Te Ku Te Whe ("The Woven Mat of Sound") has been remixed and re-presented by a distinguished crew of contemporary artists including Samonella Dub, Sola Rosa, Victoria Kelly, Pitch Black, SJD and others. In September 2006 Rattle Records released Te Whaiao: Te Ku Te Whe Remixed. Trevor Reekie spoke to Tim Gummer of Rattle Records, musician Victoria Kelly and Richard Nunns about making this landmark album.
