Good Laika is something of a Wellington supergroup - composed of refugees from Bleakhouse, the Stereo Bus, Verona, Odessa, and the Accelerants. The band has been playing together for years but they say live performances can be counted on one hand - even one with a few fingers missing. Named after the first dog in space, the band says Laika had her suspicions when the men with beards and fluffy hats started dressing her up in a spacesuit, but she adored the attention. 'Like the ill-fated canine, Good Laika the band invokes pictures of bitter irony, grim humour and passionate ambition.' With their debut album 'Heads I Win, Tails You Lose' Good Laika gathers five years of material into three days of recording time. Julie Hill spoke to Good Laika keyboardist and the album's cover artist Nic Marshall.
