MPs pulled up for question time errors

From The House , 6:55 pm on 25 February 2021

Parliament has many rules about how question time can be run and the Speaker Trevor Mallard pulled up a few MPs for breaking those rules this week.

Each sitting day question time is one of the first things MPs get through - its purpose is to give MPs the opportunity to quiz the Government on how it’s doing its job.

Question time has a standard formula and consists of up to 12 questions to be asked of Ministers. There are rules about when the questions have to be lodged, how many each party gets, and who gets to ask a follow-up question.

The Speaker is in charge of making sure MPs follow those rules and behave themselves according to the standards set out in Parliament's rule book. Hear how it played out in the audio below.
