NZ nurses: World Bank suggestion of Pacific labour 'insulting'

From , 5:04 am on 1 October 2018

The New Zealand Nurses Organisation has hit out at a World Bank report which suggests Pacific labour could fill shortfalls in the Aged Care sector.

Last month the World Bank said a severe shortage of aged care workers was looming in Australia and New Zealand but a 'youth bulge' in the Pacific could be the answer to solving the problem.

But Eseta Finau, who sits on the nurses organisation's board and chairs its Pacific section, told Koro Vaka'uta the suggestion was short-sighted and patronising towards Pacific people.
