Fijian league icon calls it quits after head injuries

From , 4:03 pm on 5 October 2018

Fijian rugby league international Eloni Vunakece has been forced to retire following multiple concussions.

Vunakece suffered his latest head knock while playing in the New South Wales Intrust Cup for the Wyong Roos.

It was his third such injury this year and he guesses he may had dozens of others over the course of his career.

The 31 year old prop played just nine games for the Sydney Roosters in the NRL but represented the Fiji Bati over the course of 15 tests and two world cups.

Vunakece told Vinnie Wylie how he was inspired to represent his Fijian heritage.
