There are concerns in the Cook Islands at the government's failure to have an environmental impact assessment done on its plan to use chlorine to purify the water in its new supply system, Te Mato Vai.
The government says it hasn't committed to the use of chlorine but it is known on Rarotonga that this is is preferred option.
The NGO Te Vai Ora Maori has been campaigning to have the government consider other options.
Its researcher is Andy Kirkwood who told Don Wiseman the government is not listening to what the community wants when Te Mato Vai comes on line in just a matter of weeks.
