Papua New Guinea's new law governing political parties will require them to foster the participation of women in politics.
The Organic Law on Political Parties and Candidates has been re-written because the courts threw out a measure designed to stop MPs crossing the floor.
It will now require political parties to be stronger, permanent and visible, right through a term.
There has long been a push in PNG to increase the number of women in parliament and the architect of the changes, the Registrar of Political Parties, Dr Alphonse Gelu, told Don Wiseman what the new measure is aiming to do.
