A year 11 New Zealand student of Samoan heritage, Telesia Tanoa'i, won third place at the 16th Chinese Bridge - the world's largest Chinese language and general knowledge competition for secondary students.
Miss Tanoa'i was among 168 finalists who traveled to China for the final stage of the competition.
A total of 45,000 students competed in preliminary competitions across the globe.
