The founder of a Cook Islands NGO advocating for LGBT+ rights in the Cook Islands has been awarded the 'Franco-German Prize for Human Rights and the Rule of Law'.
Valery Wichman of Te Tiare Association is the first Pasifika person to receive this global award.
RNZ Pacific's Tiana Haxton attended the special presentation ceremony on Friday morning in Wellington.
