NZ Biography: Bruce Mason

From Afternoons, 2:23 pm on 4 July 2019

Bruce Mason was widely regarded as New Zealand's best playwright, known mostly for The Pohutukawa Tree and his solo show The End of the Golden Weather which he performed throughout New Zealand nearly a thousand times. It was also made into a film by Ian Mune.

But Mason produced a huge amount of other work too and managed to fit in about a dozen careers along the way. Find the latest production of his work Zero Inn directed by John Marwick, here.

John Smythe's book, The Plays of Bruce Mason - A Survey, is more a 'works of' than a 'life of' but it includes a lot of biographical material, not least because a lot of his works were autobiographical.
