Measles: Health officials scramble as numbers near 1000

From Checkpoint, 5:09 pm on 30 August 2019

The numbers are stark: 762 measles cases in Auckland, and 914 cases around New Zealand.

The New Zealand secondary schools rugby league championships have been cancelled, in case its players get or spread measles.

And on Friday afternoon the National Health Coordination Centre has been activated to coordinate the response to the outbreak in Auckland and monitor the situation elsewhere.

There are fears the outbreak will worsen, and there's the possibility it could be fueled by thousands of secondary students gathering across New Zealand for the Winter Sports Tournament Week on Monday.
