Mosque attack arrest: Police 'just doing our job'

From Checkpoint, 6:15 pm on 16 October 2019

'We were just doing our job' - that's what the two police officers who took down the alleged mosque gunman say of their actions on March 15.

The two officers were driving on Brougham Street in Christchurch, five minutes after the reports of shots being fired at the Linwood Mosque, and twenty minutes after a gunman had started killing people at the Al-Noor Mosque in the suburb of Riccarton.

The two officers saw a car which they believed was driven by the shooter, and took the chance to stop and arrest the heavily armed man.

On Wednesday they were honoured for their work that day with 2019 Police Association Bravery Award.
