NZ pilots worried about Auckland Airport main runway

From Checkpoint, 6:07 pm on 7 February 2020

New Zealand airline pilots are worried about the safety of Auckland Airport's main runway, with reports of 30 centimetre chunks of concrete coming loose where planes land.

A number of flights were diverted or delayed yesterday afternoon after the runway was shut down for maintenance - the second time it's happened this year.

Pilots flying to Auckland from overseas are now being advised to carry extra fuel in case they need to be diverted yet again.

Matthew Theunissen reports.
