Covid-19 alert level changes - what you need to know

From Checkpoint, 5:17 pm on 5 March 2021

Auckland will leave lockdown and drop down to alert level 2 at 6am on Sunday. The rest of the country will move to level 1 at the same time.

The decision was made following news there are no new cases of Covid-19 in the community for the fifth day in a row.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says Cabinet will review the decision at the end of next week, with the view to move Auckland to level 1 at the start of the following weekend.

In the meantime, under alert level 2 it will not be business as usual for Aucklanders. Social events will also be limited to 100 people.

Ardern says over the next few weeks she will set out a road map for the country, particularly around certainty over the vaccine delivery.

Dr Ashley Bloomfied today issued a legal direction under section 70 of the Health Act for those who attended City Fitness at Hunter's Plaza at the same time of the Covid-19 community case.

It also applies to anyone contacted and advised they are a close plus, close or casual plus contact and is still needing to be tested.

Dr Bloomfield says 10 people who attended City Fitness are yet to receive a test result, but eight have already had a test or in the process of getting one. Another two cannot be found but officials are tracking them down.
