Covid-19: NZ extends pause on MIQ-free travel with Victoria

From Checkpoint, 5:07 pm on 27 May 2021

New Zealand has extended its pause on quarantine free travel with Victoria for another seven days.

The government of Victoria today put the state in lockdown for a week to contain the Covid-19 outbreak in Melbourne. Victorians aren't allowed to have any visitors to their home, other than an intimate partner.

There will be no public gatherings, while restaurants, pubs, and cafes can provide takeaways.

Thousands of people who have travelled to New Zealand from Melbourne since 11 May were yesterday told to keep a close eye out for symptoms.

Anyone who has been in greater Melbourne and has travelled on to New Zealand in the last week is being asked to isolate and get tested.

Covid-19 Minister Chris Hipkins made this announcement a short time ago. Dr Ashely Bloomfield had instructions for people who had recently returned to NZ.
