NZ tops Airbnb's list of hosts aged over 60

From Checkpoint, 6:27 pm on 1 October 2021

It's the UN's International Day of Older Persons and it turns out New Zealand tops the list when it comes to the highest number of senior hosts on Airbnb.

More than 27 percent of hosts in the country are over the age of 60, whereas the global average is around 11 percent.

One of those hosts is 88-year-old Phyllis who's a retired nurse. Her partner Alan started opening their home in Papamoa beach to guests in 2018.

Perlina Lau has been speaking to Phyllis about why they started.
