From Checkpoint, 5:21 pm on 1 November 2022

Auckland is facing a public transport crisis and the government needs to get on an emergency footing, mayor Wayne Brown says.

In a statement Brown says Aucklanders should not and will not acept two years of rail disruptions and ongoing cuts to bus services.

Rolling months long maintenance closures are planned for all the city's rail commuter lines.

And from Sunday Auckland Transport us cutting a thousand bus trips a day from its schedule due to driver shortages.

Wayne Brown also says Transport and Immigration Minister Michael Michael Wood needs to let more bus drivers into the country and forget about fantasy projects like light rail for the city.
