For the first time the brakes are going on vehicles at a popular west Auckland beach this Guy Fawkes Auckland council's extended a ban on motorbikes and cars driving along Muriwai to cover the days when fireworks can be sold, from the second to the sixth of November; because of the fire risk and potential damage to the beach eco system.
Muriwai beach will also be closed to again to drivers over the peak summer weeks to for safety reasons.
Auckland Council's regional parks principal specialist Stephen Bell says Guy Fawkes is a particular worry.
