Immigration NZ criticised for ignoring work visa scheme concerns

Immigration New Zealand has been criticised for ignoring concerns that its work visa scheme was allowing migrants to buy jobs and be exploited.

The Accredited Employer Work Visa scheme was brought in after COVID-19 border closures led to a worker shortage.

Since then, there have been countless stories about migrants being brought into the country, to find their jobs don't exist, and being forced to live in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions.

Now commentators say the policy needs to be fixed further or completely scrapped.
