As the number of electric vehicles on New Zealand's roads continues to increase, EV drivers in need of repairs might have a hard time finding a mechanic qualified to fix them.

The country now has an EV fleet of around 73,000 an increase of 166% since 2021 and the Ministry of Transport expects that number to more than double by the end of the year.

The industry is calling for electric vehicle repairs to become part of the standard mechanic training programme and fast.
