Consequences for Kāinga Ora tenants - Luxon

The Coalition has instructed Kāinga Ora to take a tougher line on disruptive and unruly tenants - evicting the worst offenders and chasing down overdue rent.

Ministers have sent a letter to the housing agency's board - demanding it ends its current approach to tenancies.

The directive asks for more timely use of warnings and relocations - and a faster process for terminations in severe and persistent cases.

The Prime Minister Christopher Luxon says there must consequences.
