Heavy rain has hit parts of the North Island, causing surface flooding and slips, traffic chaos and sewage overflows in New Plymouth.
Te Awamutu in Waikato has also been hard hit by the weather with flash flooding there this afternoon.
In New Plymouth about 100 millimetres of rain has fallen in the past 24 hours, the New Plymouth District Council Mayor Neil Holdom joins Lately.
