Feel-good marketing ploy may destroy suppliers

The Countdown price freeze might be good news for consumers but market analysts worry it will have grave unintended consequences. The Australian owned supermarket giant has committed to freezing the prices of 500 products from the 9th of May till end of winter.

But speaking to RNZ"s Checkpoint, Countdown's Steve Mills couldnt guarantee its suppliers won't bear the cost in their margins.

Professor of Agri-business, at Lincoln, Hamish Gow says he's cocerned suppliers will bear the cost and be squeezed out.
