Four toi moko about to start journey from Germany to NZ

From Midday Report, 12:45 pm on 12 October 2020

Four toi moko are being received by Te Papa in Germany before making their way to Aotearoa.

The tattooed shrunken heads will be the latest ancestral remains to be received by the museum under the Karanga Aotearoa Repatriation Programme and will be welcomed to Te Papa in a ceremony in early November.

Two will be received from the Berlin Ethnological Museum and a further two will be received from University of Göttingen later this week.

Māni Dunlop spoke to Te Herekiekie Herewini, Head of Repatriation at Te Papa Tongarewa, about the repatriation.
