Fears of book burning as Auckland uni closes libraries
Staff members at the University of Auckland are worried it will burn thousands of books if it goes ahead with plans to close down it's specialist libraries. A staff member who helped close down the engineering library over a year ago says about 10 thousands books were incinerated because it was the cheapest and quickest way to get rid of stock. Now, as the university proposes shutting down further libraries to cut costs, there's concern precious books from the fine arts collection could turn to ashes.
