National claims govt confusion over Waikeria prison

From Morning Report, 6:45 am on 18 July 2018

Cabinet papers show the government continued work towards a mega-prison at Waikeria for months after taking power. Corrections Minister Kelvin Davis ultimately pulled the brakes on the billion-dollar project and last month instead greenlit a smaller 600-bed facility. The documents - released on Tuesday - show in December 2017, Mr Davis recommended maintaining progress on the mega-prison until at least March when a final decision would be made. National's corrections spokesperson David Bennett told RNZ political reporter Craig McCulloch it shows a government in confusion.
