Flights in quarantine 'uncommon' - public health official

From Morning Report, 6:14 am on 12 September 2018

The quarantining of passengers on a flight from Australia on Monday night was a very rare event but officials say it was necessary to protect public health. Passengers on board a Virgin Australia flight from Melbourne were kept there for two hours at Auckland Airport, after passengers fell ill with flu like symptoms. And on Sunday, an Air New Zealand flight from Melbourne to Christchurch was quarantined for about an hour after a passenger got sick. Dr Shanika Perera from Auckland Regional Public Health told RNZ reporter Sophia Duckor-Jones they don't take such decisions lightly but will act if necessary.
