Bishop claims Peters reassured Haumaha during inquiry

From Morning Report, 6:12 am on 27 September 2018

Acting Prime Minister Winston Peters is rejecting an Opposition claim that he rang and reassured the deputy police commissioner Wally Haumaha after the government launched an inquiry into his appointment. The ongoing saga into Mr Haumaha's appointment and what ties, if any, there are between him and NZ First took another turn yesterday when the National MP Chris Bishop made serious allegations in the House. Mr Peters says his office has checked all of his phone records and found there is no basis to the claim. He says any suggestion that New Zealand First ministers are seeking to unduly influence the inquiry is baseless nonsense. Both Mr Bishop and Mr Peters declined to be interviewed on the matter.
