Ball bearings found in Kāpiti ice cream, family says

An Auckland woman says she'll never buy Fonterra products again after finding eleven steel ball bearings in a tub of luxury ice cream. Ann Brown was shocked to discover the 9mm balls in a bowl of Kapiti triple chocolate ice cream a few weeks ago. She complained to the brand's owner Fonterra - which investigated and concluded the bearings couldn't have come from its production site during processing. But Ms Brown told our reporter Anneke Smith the response puzzled her because the tub's tamper-proof seal was intact when she opened the ice cream.
