Ombudsman mulls inquiry after Callaghan reveals OIA requests

From Morning Report, 8:24 am on 5 October 2018

The government research body, Callaghan Innovation, is defending itself against claims it doesn't treat all OIA requests equally. Earlier this morning it's chair Pete Hodgson, denied the claims his organisation had deliberately shuffled the Taxpayers' Union's requests to the bottom of the pile. He said that despite the Taxpayers' Union filing a huge number of detailed requests, Callaghan responded within the legal timeframe. He also told Morning Report that the Taxpayers' Union's actions were an abuse of power, hence why Callaghan Innovation revealed details of the OIA requesters to the NZ Herald. The Chief Ombudsman tells Guyon Espiner he is looking into launching an investigation over the saga.
