NZ First accepts Jami-Lee Ross' proxy vote

From Morning Report, 7:20 am on 8 November 2018

The Jami-Lee Ross saga has taken a new twist with the former National MP asking none other than New Zealand First to cast his vote while he's away. The Botany MP is on medical leave after both quitting and being expelled from the National Party. Mr Ross had asked his former party to keep casting his vote, but was rebuffed - so instead he turned to New Zealand First. Its leader Winston Peters says Mr Ross asked that his vote be cast in the same way as National and - after careful consideration - his party has agreed. He says Mr Ross should ideally resign from Parliament, but in the meantime, the people of Botany deserve to be represented. But Otago University law professor Andrew Geddis says New Zealand First may also be mischief-making by trying to keep the story in the news.
