Māori in prison: Justice campaigner pushes for target strategy

A criminal justice campaigner is putting the government on notice that it must dramatically improve prison conditions before it appears again before the United Nations in five years time. Overnight the Justice Minister Andrew Little led the New Zealand delegation called to defend New Zealand's human rights record before the UN. Delegates repeatedly questioned the high rates of domestic violence, the increasing number of New Zealanders in prisons, and the unequal treatment of Māori. Mr Little told Morning Report that New Zealand has a lot to be proud of on this issue, but he's is ready to make more progress.
