Australian PM says he will reopen Christmas Island
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison says he will reopen the Christmas Island detention centre which closed in October last year. It comes in response to a government defeat in Parliament, when a law was passed giving doctors more power to decide whether asylum seekers on Manus Island and Nauru can go to Australia for medical treatment. Mr Morrison says that will spur more asylum seekers to head for Australia and Christmas Island needs to be recommissioned to cope with the influx.
