Migrant protection law punishing workers - lawyer

An immigration and employment lawyer says a law designed to protect migrant workers from exploitation, actually punishes them. Companies caught exploiting workers are banned from hiring new migrant workers for a year, including renewing the visas of their existing employees. Immigration New Zealand says the policy sends a strong signal to companies to comply with the law. But Nick Mason, from the law firm Pitt & Moore, told Anusha Bradley the policy is ill-thought out and doesn't make sense.
