Blogger Cameron Slater has been ordered to pay $70,000 to businessman Matt Blomfield, for what the Human Rights Review Tribunal calls a calculated assassination of his character.
The tribunal found that in a series of Whaleoil posts in 2012, Mr Slater held Matt Blomfield up as a figure of contempt and ridicule.
Mr Slater argued that as a journalist he was protected from Mr Blomfield's legal action, but the tribunal says blog posts do not count as 'news'. Mr Blomfield speaks to Guyon Espiner.
