Harsher penalties urged for drivers on phones

After a horror week on the roads, and despite efforts from police and our transport safety agencies, the battle to stop phones being a deadly distraction is not being won. Latest figures show drivers distracted by their phones are dying at a greater rate than when the use of mobiles was banned ten years ago. The eight deaths in 2017 were more than the fatalities in the two years before the law changed. Eliot Jessep told our reporter Jordon Bond he's has been speaking out about the risks since his mother was killed in a crash seven years ago - police said she'd been texting and driving.
